Spiritual healing

Plato once remarked:
“Before you can cure a man’s body, you must cure his mind and before that his soul” .

If we think seriously on the subject, no two astrological charts could be identical since astrology is a science based on permutations and calculations of space and time. Soul-centred astrology is vastly different from conventional tropical sun-sign astrology because it treats every star-chart in a unique and individual way. I am sure that you will agree that although many astrologers may make generalisations, there is more to people than merely a description of their sun-sign characteristics. For example a dog born at the same time and in the same place as you is unlikely to have the same life experience or characteristics. In effect a zodiac chart is merely a 2-dimensional representation of a 5-dimensional personality. Holistic or soul-centred astrology examines many other elements in any star-chart, for example the lunar asterism, the lunar nodes and where every other planetary influence and aspect is most likely going to make you the unique being that you are.

Thus indicating that the counsellor, although endowed with all the relevant skills and experience must nevertheless approach each situation with an open mind, without presumption or sole authority.

The word psyche, from which the word psychology was coined, actually derives from the Greek meaning soul, so that one can only presume that psychotherapy means literally to “heal the soul”. However, the word soul has numerous connotations and meanings within both religion and philosophy, that is now lost to contemporary western society. For example the word soul is used to describe a particular style of music, but the dictionary interprets the word as follows;

“the spiritual or immaterial aspect of human beings, the moral manifestation and emotional part of the conscious mind, the vital principle of life and mental emanations, or embodiment of all intellectual and emotional striving towards an ideal goal”.

In contrast when someone is described as soul-less we often mean that they lack direction, are fundamentally sad, sick, depressed or completely lacking in moral fibre. The Scottish psychiatrist R.D. Laing considered that psychosis, neurosis and any form of psychological breakdown was part of a challenging phase or breakthrough that would eventually lead to a greater personal understanding.

Therefore it is quite obvious that human beings, throughout their individual lives and over the course of thousands of years of mass cultural, political and spiritual evolution have for some time been undergoing a healing process.
